Placing a TV above a fireplace moves the image you’re trying to watch well above eye level. For comfortable TV watching its good that you get one of the many available mounts available in the market to be able to bring down the TV to about eye level. These mounts do the job and are priced from $200-$800. They all do the job with variation in how you can pull them down. Personally we like the one which has a handle. This makes pulling down the TV easier.
All of these mounts stick out from the wall around 5-8 inches when it is back in its position. In case you were thinking they are going to be flat against the wall like many picture in the vendors websites, please check again.
