Guide to Choosing a TV Wall Mount for your TV – Fixed-Tilt or Swivel

Modern realities dictate the fashion for the functional use of space at home. There is a large number of smart apartments and other spaces alike, where every small corner has to be functional.

This trend applies to the placement of home appliances inside the house as well. Since modern TV’s have mostly flat panels, it is more convenient to place them on the walls, using TV wall mounts.

There exist different varieties of such TV mounts, you can install them on a wall, ceiling or hide inside furniture.

Fixed TV Mount

This type allows you to rigidly fix your TV parallel to the wall. People use this type of wall mounts for fixing TVs with a large diagonal mostly. You can see them even in public places. Fixed wall mounts are reliable and cheap. If you want to save space in your apartment, pay attention to this type of wall mount.

Pros:

  • Keeps your TV close to the wall (which can be also a con)
  • Suitable for any type of flat or curved screen televisions; LCD, Plasma, LED & OLED with cable inputs facing sideways or downwards
  • Suitable for any type of flat wall – Drywall & wooden studs, Drywall & metal studs, plaster (interior & exterior wall). concrete, brick, tiled wall & etc…
  • Wide Wall Plate – Easy to center the TV wherever you want in most cases with Lateral Shift (ability to slide the TV left & right on the wall plate)

Cons:

  • Keeps your TV close to the wall and therefore, you can’t easily change cables behind the TV without dismounting your TV first.
  • Cannot adjust viewing angle – Does NOT tilt or swivel
  • May not be suitable for TV’s that have cable connections facing backwards towards the wall as there won’t be enough clearance to plug the cables in to the back of your TV without damaging them. However, there are work-around methods such as using Right Angle connectors but you may not be able to easily find certain type of right angle connectors that you may need to use.
  • Difficult to hide excess cables behind the TV for wire concealment / management.
  • If you have a regular electrical outlet behind the TV, it will need to be recessed.

Tilt TV Mount

This kind of mounts allows adjusting the level of the tilt of the TV, which is very convenient, in cases when the screen is above the level of the viewer’s eyes.

Tilting brackets have the highest compatibility without having to make any modifications for mounting any type of flat screen TV or monitor that’s VESA mount compatible.

Pros:

  • Suitable for any type of flat or curved screen televisions; LCD, Plasma, LED & OLED
  • Suitable for any type of flat wall – Drywall & wooden studs, Drywall & metal studs, plaster (interior & exterior wall). concrete, brick, tiled wall & etc…
  • Wide wall plate – – Easy to center the TV wherever you want in most cases with Lateral Shift (ability to slide the TV left & right on the wall plate)
  • Most of the Tilting TV wall mounts we carry provide enough clearance from the back of the TV to the wall (from 2″ to 3.1″ of clearance depending on the model) to reach behind the TV for easy cable connection & management regardless of the orientation of the cable connection
  • You can tilt the TV down to get better viewing angle if your TV is mounted high above a fireplace.
  • You can tilt the TV up in order to gain even more space to access the cable connections on the back of the TV if you ever need to change cabling without having to dismount your TV.
  • You can mount media players, cable box, apple TVs, mini computers behind the TV and hide all the shenanigans behind the TV to have it look floating from the front.

Cons:

  • Protrudes out little more than Super Slim / Low-profile TV wall mounts but that’s considerably a good trade-off for all the other benefits.
  • Does not swivel Left & Right

Swivel TV Mount

a.k.a Full-Motion or Articulating TV Mount

Such mounts make it possible to move the screen not only up and down, but also to the left and Your screen is placed further from the wall than in the case of other type of mounts, which is not always suitable for small apartments. Nevertheless, it is perfect for TVs with a large screen diagonal.

Pros:

  • Ability to swivel left & right
  • Suitable for any type of flat or curved screen televisions; LCD, Plasma, LED & OLED
  • Ideal when mounting in a large room or in the corner of a room
  • Folds back against the wall when you don’t need your TV swiveled in an angle
  • Some models can swivel up to 180º.
  • Ability to Tilt down
  • Also Tilts up on most models we carry
  • Easy to get to the cable connections on the back of your TV by pulling your TV away from the wall

Cons:

  • TV Sticks out allot from the wall, unless its a recessed wall.
  • Cannot mount the TV in your desired center position in most cases. It depends on where your studs are located.
  • Usually, MOST Full motion mounts come in bulky design and sticks out more than other types of mounts.
  • Not suitable to mount very heavy TV’s (larger then 60″) on drywall with metal studs & most plaster exterior walls in old homes / buildings

When choosing a TV wall mount, pay attention to the following:

  • Your screen diagonal. TV screens differ in size. Your must choose the wall mount that is suitable for the size of your TV. You can find this information in the specification of your TV
  • Load. Compare the weight of your TV and the maximum weight that the mount can support. Do not overload the TV wall mount.
  • VESA. More than 140 mount manufacturers adhere to this international .. This is the distance between the mounting holes at the back of the TV vertically and horizontally. You can find TV’s VESA standard in your TV’s data sheet. Or you can measure it yourself with measuring tape or a ruler. Just measure the distance from the center of the mounting holes horizontally and vertically in mm. These two numbers are the VESA standard.
  • Mounting kit. Go for wall mount models, which include all the necessary materials for installation. These are dowels, anchors and fixing screws. Some manufacturers may complement the kit with HDMI cables and corner adapters.
